End of the Line

The other night an announcement came through in the train carriage, “Ladies and gentlemen, we’re sorry for the delay. There has been a report of a suspicious package in one of the carriages. We will be moving again as soon as security has done a sweep through to make sure everything is OK. Please look around you for any suspicious bags, suitcases, anything that isn’t yours and inform the security people if you spot anything. Thank you.”

I was engrossed in my newly acquired copy of Catcher In The Rye when I heard this. I looked up, listened and looked around. A sense of calm blanketed me. I thought if this was going to be my last moment, I would be happy with the life I’ve lived. I briefly wondered what the others were thinking before going back to the pages.

After five minutes or so, the doors closed, and the train continued to take me and the other passengers home.
