Not So Simple Pleasures
Published by Wing July 25th, 2006 in EverythingBefore a rather frustrating Sunday, I managed a few simple pleasures on Saturday.
- A full refrigerator
- Developing film
- New underwear
- Time with pets
- Cooking
Sunday was a most frustrating day, which I’m ready to leave behind to prevent it weighing me down further than it really deserves to. Saturday caught me by surprise. As I was going through street photography withdrawal, I decided to walk the city to remedy the symptoms. By chance I managed to catch the tail end of the anti-war protest in the city. The march was well over, there were media interviewing a few groups in Martin Place. I really wasn’t intending to photograph it, but found myself taking a few shots anyway, mostly out of reflex. However, the thing that struck me was that I didn’t want to leave. I was overcome with a sadness that was most unexpected. It took me a good 10-15 minutes until I walked to Circular Quay and my eyes stopped welling. I was in a bit of a daze for the rest of that day.
Simple pleasures they may be, but luxuries for others on this earth. I’m glad my Sunday was merely frustrating.

i’ve been avoiding the news a bit lately. it’s just far too depressing. i cannot believe what’s going on in lebanon right now. and i cannot believe world leaders are all just sitting back and basically condoning it with non-action. it sickens me to my stomach. and makes me incredibly sad.
“street photography withdrawal”????
