Cabbie #1
Published by Wing June 8th, 2006 in Everything, CabbiesI thought I’d start documenting the cabbies I talk to on my drunken rides home.
Chinese, 27. Speaks Mandarin, some Cantonese which he picked up mostly from Hong Kong movies and TV. Says speaking Cantonese is a somewhat “fashionable” amongst mainland Chinese. First night as cabbie. Quiet night. Finishing for the day. Been in Oz for 7 years. Wife from Shanghai, 1 kid 2 years old. Not many friends. At home mostly, plays computer games. Pretty good English, with a medium strength mainland Chinese accent. Can still read Chinese. Charged me $16. Meter was at $16.90.

Cool idea! And great way to make a little less expensive!
there’s a cool film floating about but i don’t know the name, with a guy interviewing cabbies - it’s very cool.
i told my taxi the wrong destination that night, forgetting my car was at my mum’s.
