Malcolm

My second f1.4 shallow DOF portrait attempt. Better this time. Malcolm, being an actor, instinctively struck a smile for the camera. Not a bad smile actually. The shallow DOF works well to create the colours at the back. Not bad, except I wish that white dot wasn’t there. Perhaps a wider lens with a nicer background bokeh in the future.
I’m liking the feel of the Nikon FE. The weight helps with my shaky hands. Feels a little small to hold at the moment though. I also wish it had a more ergonomical grab handle for the right hand side, like more modern SLRs have. But picture wise, this camera and lens does a good job. This is just run of the mill Kodak Gold 100 film.
The only thing missing now is talent. Now where can I buy some of that?

You have talent. No need to go looking for more. You have all you need right in that great soul of yours. That picture is one of my all time favorite portraits on FLickr. And I am not just saying that. It truly is a masterpiece.
Well it’s kind of you to say so Stefanie. This really was just me getting to know that camera. Hopefully I’ll get more chances to take portraits with it. As they say, practice makes perfect.
I wandered to your flickr stream and found this picture (I remember seeing it when you blogged it), and just had to come back. Your short film has been on the edges of my thoughts this week - seeing this picture of Malcolm made me smile.
