Recurring Dream - Examination
Published by Wingdingo January 2nd, 2005 in Everything, DreamsI have a recurring dream that recently paid me a visit. It’s one of me being back at school or university. It’s the day before the finals and I haven’t studied, not one bit. In fact, I hadn’t attended any lectures, and have no idea about what’s in the syllabus. I’d be running around like a headless chicken, asking for help. Nobody helps of course, as they’re too busy studying. My emotions would go from panic, to couldn’t care less, to I’ll manage somehow because I remember having graduated in the past.
And then it hits me, in the dream, that this must be a dream, because I did graduate, and I work, and haven’t had to study for any exams for yonks. And then I’d wake up.
This dream started about 3-4 years ago, and recurs about twice a year on average. In earlier dreams I’d wake up in a panic, then realised that I have a job and breathe a sigh of relief. After a couple of those I’d realised I was dreaming while I was inside the dream, and then wake up. As soon as I broke the conflict in the dream, I woke up.
Interesting though. I have had another recurring dream (only three times) where I’d realised I was dreaming (in the first repeat) and went on dreaming. As I remembered the first dream, I was able to plan my escape route from the giant robots roaming the streets. So in this case the dreams change because of my recollection of previous dreams in the same series.
This to me has an uncanny resemblance to the feeling of deja vu. Actually, I’m convinced that some of my deja vu experiences came from having dreamt it before. So I haven’t had that moment in waking life before, but I experienced it in dream. I reckon there are links between dreams (not necessarily recurring onces) and deja vu.
Dreams are so fascinating.
